PHRASAL VERBS


Significado: Levantarse
Ejemplo: Why are you sitting down? Get up!
Significado: Vestirse, arreglarse para salir
Ejemplo: There is a party tonight and we have to get up.

Get down

Meaning 1: Agacharse.
Example:
Meaning 2:(slang) Disfrutar la música
Example: Get down, dance, do whatever you feel like.

Get away

Meaning 1: Marcharse
Example:
Meaning 2:(Colloquial) irse de vacaciones. A getaway
Example: We have chosen a wonderful getaway in Hawaii to get away.

Get over

Meaning 1: Superar un obstáculo físico.
Example: He just got over that wall.
Meaning 2: Superar una pelea o problema emocional.
Example: Jane and his boufriend had a fight, but they got over it.

Get off

Meaning 1: Quítate.
Example: Get off the table!
Meaning 2: Evitar un castigo, recibir un castigo muy ligero.
Example: He got off very lightly. He killed a lot of people and was sent to prison for just one year.
Meaning 3 (slang): Excitarse por algo sexual o no sexual.
Example: When I listen to good music I get off

Get on (with)

Meaning 1: Entrar, subirse (autobus, barco, tren...).
Meaning 2 (UK): Llevarse bien con alguien.

Get through

Meaning 1: Terminar (tarea, trabajo, etc)
Example: Once you get through those exercises I'll give you more.

Get between

Meaning 1: interponerse físicamente entre dos cosas o interponerse entre una pareja, etc.
Example: Don't let your mother in law get between you and your wife.

Get along (with)

Meaning 1(USA): llevarse bien (con alquien)
Example: I get along with all my friends.
Example: me and my friends get along.

Get in

Meaning 1: Entrar (coche, taxi).
Meaning 2: Get in (with) - Be part of a group
Example: I got in with the crowd.


Phrasal Verbs with TAKE

Take out

Meaning 1: Llevarse la comida.
Example: To have here or to take away?
Meaning 2: Sacar (del horno, etc).
Example: I'll take the chiken out of the oven.
Meaning 3: Asesinar
Example: The gansters want to take him out.

Take in

Meaning 1: Meterle a la ropa.
Example: Take the trousers to the tailor so they can take it in.
Meaning 2: Adoptar (una mascota, etc).
Example:There is a cute cat outside. Can we take it in?

Take over

Meaning 1: Asumir el control (de una compañia, de un coche, etc).
Example: Let me drive, I'll take over.

Take up

Meaning 1: Usar, ocupar (espacio en una habitación, una mesa).
Meaning 2: Empezar una nueva actividad o hoby.
Example: I took up Spanish last week.
Meaning 3: hablar, discutir un problema con alguien.
Example: If you fall behind, take this problem up with your teacher.

Take after

Meaning 1: Te comportas como alguien, tienes parecida personalidad.
Example: She takes after her father. Both are tempered people.

Take back

Meaning 1: Devolver.
Example: I'll lend you my pencil. Once you are done I'll take it back
Meaning 2: Retirar algo que has dicho.
Example: I'm sorry for what I said. I take it back.

Take off

Meaning 1: Despegar.
Example: Fast your belt, the plane is about to take off
Meaning 2: tener éxito rápidamente (trabajo, una empresa...).
Example: The business started and inmediately it took off.

Take on

Meaning 1: Face the challenge or a person.
Example: I don't know how to do it but I will take it on.

Take down

Meaning 1: Derribar a alguien al suelo.
Example: He was very big and took me down.
Meaning 2: Tomar notas.
Example: Try to take down the important information.

Take to

Meaning 1: tener conexión con una persona.
Example: I really took to her. I think she is wonderful.
Meaning 2: llevar algo a alguien o a algún lugar.
Example: Take this to the other room.

Meaning 1: Sacar un tema de conversación.
Example: He is always bringing up the same topic in our conversations.
